Every step of Donald Trump’s plans have been predicated on the assumption that the Democrats cannot or will not oppose him, and every single time, he has been right.
The Democratic Party Is Not Working (part 100).
The Democrats have met Trump’s outrages with performance, internal sniping, and now “tactical silence”. When Representative Green channeled the rage of many against Trump’s plans to cut medicare and medicaid he was called on the carpet by the “leadership” because he wasn’t playing nice.
"It's a consultative process. We understand the pressure they are under."
"They are not being talked to like they are children. We are helping them understand why their strategy is a bad idea," the source said.
An elected representative stands up for his people and for vital government services and the response is a pissant counseling session.
This! this is why their popularity is on the rocks. Most voters thing Democrats do not fight for them, not because the Democrats defend gay people (indeed they don’t per Gavin Newsom), but because they won’t defend anything. Indeed the height of party wisdom right now is to “just wait” and “do nothing” Even now when a legal resident was disappeared off the street on orders of President Trump Hakeem Jeffries’ response opened with a pathetic and insulting attempt to blame the victim thus undercutting everything else he said. Chuck Schumer meanwhile, has said nothing.
I have opined before why the Democrats are in this bind and only a wholesale purging of consultants and a focus on winning not incumbency will change that. But the first, and most essential ingredient is to fight! You can’t expect people to believe you care about them if you won’t fight for anything, including your own members.
That wisdom has not been absorbed because the Democratic leadership is focused not on victory but the niceties of the game. Like the egotistic Casey they refuse to fight thinking that victory is owed to them:
With a smile of Christian charity great Casey's visage shone;
he stilled the rising tumult; he bade the game go on;
he signaled to the pitcher, and once more the spheroid flew;
but Casey still ignored it, and the umpire said: "Strike two."
Innocent people may go to the gulag and free speech may die, it seems but it is most important that the game goes on.
All of which brings me to my point. I just can’t do this anymore. I cannot seriously see a way to fight Trump with the dead, bloated, and overpriced weight of the Democratic party on our backs. The Republican “centrists” have already gelded themselves. The Democrats are little better. They have leadership that does not lead, consultants who piss our money away, and members who get scolded if they dare fight. At times it feels as if we are trapped between an abuser and a parasite and it just isn’t worth it.
We need national action, and a whole lot of local conversations1, if we are to preserve our nation and our democracy2. And we need to break the stranglehold of the Democratic party “leaders” if we intend to do it.
Postscript 3/13: Schumer has thrown in the towel. Senate Democrats will surrender their only leverage, bow down to Republicans and vote for the 6 moth CR.
No doubt tomorrow I will again receive a ton of emails from Democrat-aligned groups telling me why they had to do this. And railing against the massive Republican cuts that they just voted for. Those emails will conclude by asking me for “just $5 to fight.” or some other nonsense.
No.
No I will not do that. I will not pay for a party that whines about fighting, a party that says “what do you expect us to do?” but who never ever shows up to actually fight. This is a battle of survival and Schumer is just too tired or too comfortable to go to the mat.
Others said they would fold after some kubuki pretense. I had hoped they were wrong. They were not wrong.
Schumer, indeed all of them need to go.
The Democratic party is just a dead weight with no will to fight.
And I refuse to fund it anymore.

Focus on the Normies
In the wake of Trump's entirely predictable strikes against the constitution, his call for genocide in Gaza, his wide assault on immigrants, and his decision to go all-in on removing women and minorities from the military, security, science, even space
Yes they are serious about destroying it:
A Marriage of Arsonists
People may be cheered by the fact that Bannon hates Musk and vice-versa. And, if Steve Bannon believes the things he is saying about Musk then he is absolutely right. Musk's hatred of labor and environmental laws, his emotional instability, his narcissism, his love of inequality are all a direct threat to the people and values Bannon claims to support…
