Trump campaigned as a peace candidate. But, much like the Republican definition of Law and Order, peace is selective. Today he made that selectivity clear. He wants the us to wipe out the Palestinian people.
He couched it in real-estate terms of course.
“The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too,” Mr. Trump said at a news conference Tuesday evening. “We’ll own it and be responsible”
All of the Palestinians will be moved to "a good, fresh, beautiful piece of land" while the US razes what remains of their homes, clears out the mines, and pours fresh concrete over bodies that still rot beneath the devastation. In his mind the Palestinians will welcome a new place, and everyone else will pay to move them there.
How many would move? "all of them," "I would think that they would be thrilled."
There is no other word for this than genocide.
And there is nothing this would bring but death.
Other nations will not welcome the Palestinians, any more than Trump would welcome Haitians. And even if they can be bribed enough to take them they would always be an isolated underclass given the worst lands and dying on the way. It would be a modern day Trail of Tears, and Trump would be a modern day Andrew Jackson.
The Palestinians won't want to leave. Gaza is their home, and nothing better awaits. Hamas won't want to leave, they are founded on war. So the only way Gaza would be cleared is with guns at their backs and bullets in their heads.
Fallujah would seem like a picnic, and look cheap at twice the lives.
Not everyone is horrified of course. Netanyahu could hardly contain his glee.
"You see things others refuse to see. You say things others refuse to say, and after the jaws dropped, people scratch their heads and they say, ‘you know, he’s right.'"
This would mean permanently expanding Israel from the river to the sea, and making the US not just responsible for funding a pariah state, but killing for it as well.
There would be no other word for this than Genocide.
But to the President of the United States, and all the so-called moral people who support him, it is just another piece of property, currently occupied by undesirables, and in need of some ethnic cleansing.
In the coming days we will likely hear that “he didn’t exactly mean that” or “he can’t be serious.” But at this point neither claim can be believed. He is not just appearing crazy. He is. And soon his quislings will step into the breach and make excuses for all of this, just as they have done before.

Postscript
On Walkbacks: Trump’s followers have, predictably, begun to “walk this back” while also making excuses for it. This is normal. Trump himself said we would not fight there it would be “turned over” to us by Israel “after the fighting”. That means they plan to kill and expel everyone then leave us in charge of “development”. But as any contractor who worked in country in Afghanistan or Iraq after an area was “cleared out” knows, that means very little.
Either we would commit the initial expulsion/invasion. Or we would pay Israel to do so, then send soldiers to secure what remains for “provincial reconstruction.” That’s walking back the violence, it is just outsourcing the first stage.
On Distractions: Many have pointed out that this is a distraction. Trump is a master of “cheap heat” as Jonathan V. Last likes to say. And as a distraction from Musk’s ongoing destruction and theft of data it worked quite well, for a while. But that does not mean he isn’t serious. Like Trump’s obsession with DEIA something can be both a real threat and a feint to draw out attention away from other horrors. We can’t swing at everything, neither can or should we dismiss it because that would mean abandoning the principles allies we need to fend off all the attacks.
On Planning: Since this first broke Trump has released an AI generated video showing his plans (too sick to link). But that led some to assume that this, like everything else, was just more trolling.
No.
There are plans:
